Lachlan the Bray is an Australian spoken word performer that fuses theatre, poetry, music and stand up comedy to create socially- and politically-motivated interdisciplinary performance. Raised in a working class family in Hickeys Creek, New South Wales (AU), Lachlan the Bray seeks to the uplift historically underrepresented voices, and to promote a sense of collective awareness, compassion and empathy.
Lachlan is a working writer whose original work has been performed at the New York International Fringe Festival, the Hollywood Fringe in LA. It has been produced in theatres in San Francisco, Sydney and of course his hometown of Kempsey (AU). Lachlan’s unique style fuses theatre, poetry and music into his scripts. He is just as comfortable in the studio in song-writing sessions as he is in the rehearsal room.
Lachlan the Bray’s unique brand of spoken word performance blends his expertise in competitive slam poetry with his experience as a playwright and theatrical performer to create extended theatrical pieces that centralize storytelling rather than soapboxing. As an accomplished piano player and musician his work blends the spoken word element with the idioms of jazz, roots, cabaret and electronic music. He has performed solo and with a band in major cities along the west coast of the US as well as toured regionally along the east coast of Australia.
Lachlan’s teachings are based firmly in his practice as a multimedia artist. He teaches writing and composition both individually and to groups of any size. He also tutors piano privately.
