As a teaching artist Lachlan works individually with students, NDIS participants and school groups (up to 10) to deliver activities, games and exercises across a range of disciplines. Lachlan believes that teaching an inspired, lateral approach to problem solving can have benefits that bleed into school, interpersonal and everyday life.

The program aims to fortify a student’s confidence by encouraging experimentation and creative risk taking. Lachlan hopes to kindle a passion for learning, by guiding students to uncover for themselves, tools and methods that speak to their individual strengths and idiosyncrasies.


toolbox

At the heart of the program is the toolbox. It is a space where the student is encouraged to trust their intuition and curiosity. They will develop their own process in creative problem solving, lateral thinking and critical reflection. The tools are built from exercises in improvisation, free association, pattern recognition, game construction, world building, memorisation, story telling, observation and map reading. The skills learned here can be applied across a wide range of disciplines - science? Check. Firefighting? Probably. Cubbyhouse construction? Absolutely.


headspace

Here we seek to improve focus and productivity through meditation, yoga practice, and theatre games. These exercises will get students into a headspace to imagine and create. The brain is a muscle and this is where we do our pushups.



Music lies at the intersection of self-expression and discipline. Proven to help both literacy and numeracy skills, learning to play music is like learning another language, the benefits of which bleed into all aspects of study. This is a practical component with a focus on applied skills over theory. Together we practice ear training and explore the fundamentals of rhythm, melody and harmony. Playing music is by far, the most fun way to tell your parents "I am studying!"
